Every year, every season the design world showers consumers with new trends, new ideas and new inspirations. There are so many fun, new seasonal fads that come and go that it can seem daunting to try to keep up. For those of us that love our homes, and love decorating them, it can be hard to hold back on completely redoing everything when we see new ideas and get inspired by new trends.
But let's be honest. It’s not physically, nor financially, realistic to redesign our homes every season, or even every year or two.
However, If you still love to change things up no matter the season, then follow these simple tips to create a beautiful and timeless base that will look great no matter what accessories or additions you throw in.

Keep Your Base Designs Neutral First, don’t freak out! Neutral does not necessarily mean “white”. Neutral simply means that the background items can act as a backdrop to many different styles and color pallets. Many different colors can read as neutral - creams, taupes, grays and even greens & blues (Think of how you wear blue jeans with everything, and they still match!) You want to pick a base palette that speaks to your preferences in other colors. If you prefer cool tones, go with grays, blues or greens. If you prefer warm tones, try creams, taupes, and beiges. If you like drama in your space, push these colors into darker values, like charcoal, or mahogany. Select furniture pieces that are classic yet clean-lined. Simple shapes, that are not too angular or overly curvy, can be used in a wide range of styles. This allows you the flexibility to change your style from time to time, without replacing all of your furniture. Image Credit: Pexels |
Incorporate Natural Materials Nature is the original Neutral pallet! Woods and stones bring the outdoors in and provide texture and visual interest without distracting from other decor items. Hardwood floors, stone facade walls, travertine and marble tiles, all help to bring natural elements into your space that will look beautiful with a large variety of styles and themes. Swap Out Small Decor Use decor items in your home to easily change your style or add seasonal accents. Throw rugs, pillows, blankets are obvious choices. But also consider changing out artwork and lamps (or lamp shades!), using slipcovers on upholstery and swapping out small accent furniture pieces like martini tables or decorative ottomans. Photo or Art collage walls can be a fun way to make changes and update your accests as well. Shown Here: The Huari Collection from Romo |

Incorporate Accent Walls Accent walls are a great way to influence the decor of your room. By selecting one wall that can be repainted or wallpapered, you give yourself the ability to influence the entire feel of the room, without redoing the whole space. Consider a bright new paint color, or even a decorative Mural to breathe new life into a room. While this change might be more labor intensive than just swapping pillows, it can have a great effect. Because of the labor of this change, it makes more sense to limit accent wall changes to every couple of years, instead of every season. Shown Here: Accent Wall in Farrow & Ball's Inchyra Blue |

Use Decorative Arrangements Decorative arrangements -floral or greenery- are the perfect seasonal decor. Because plant-based arrangements are so heavily influenced by the weather and season, swapping out your earthy autumnal blooms for wintery evergreens, is a perfect way to refresh your home. Arrangements can be made of flowers, leaves and greenery, grasses and reeds, and can include found objects or other decorative items (think of a tall vase with evergreen branches interspersed with sparkly coils and Christmas ornaments).
